TEDx Youth@Kamalpokhari all set for this July!

Kathmandu, 9th June, 2018: TEDx Youth@Kamalpokhari was officially announced in the press release held on 9th June, 2018 at Grace International, New Baneshwor, Kathmandu.

It is an independently organized TEDx Youth event operated under license from TED in Kathmandu, centered on the theme ‘Changing Currents’.  

TEDxYouth@Kamalpokhari is slated for 7th July, at Nepal Tourism Board, Pradarshani Marg, Kathmandu. This youth-led event, with an audience size of 100, will feature inspirational stories of 10 local heroes across the nation in a bid to bring positive changes in society. The confirmed speakers till date include Aayushi KC (Founder of Khaalisisi), Asish Thakur (Executive Director of Glocal Pvt Ltd), Nawaraj Parajuli (Nepali poet, actor), Priya Sigdel (Miss Nepal Earth 2018), Ranju Darshana (Social Activist, Politician), Ashim Pandey (Founder, Yatri Motorcycles) and Sneha Shrestha (Founder, Sneha’s Care). The remaining speakers will be selected through an application process by the curators team.

Mr Prayas Tiwari, the licensee, curator, and co-organizer at TEDx Youth@Kamalpokhari, mentioned about how he fixated his vision of organizing a branded TEDx event in Nepal. “Our event concerns shifts in our values, perspectives and ideas, because we are seeing rapid changes in every aspect of life; from medical research, transportation to the way we use our phone camera. We want to give the voice to people from different walks of life through this TEDx

Mr Andrew Poudel, Director of Grace International which has partnered with TEDx Youth@Kamalpokhari, stated, “We have always been supporting youth related programs that motivates and empowers youths. Thus, supporting this TEDx event falls under our CSR approaches to contribute in this dynamic of change led by youths. We believe in motivating youths of Nepal, whether living in Nepal or going abroad.“

On a concluding remark, Mr Ajay Pandey, curator and co-organizer at TEDx Youth@Kamalpokhari, emphasized on their objective to bring a valuable and branded TED like experience through TEDx in Nepal. This shall contributed in the TEDx culture in Nepal, which has been evolving in the recent years.

अभिभावकत्व ग्रहण, हाम्रो शिक्षा र शिक्षामा दिगो विकास लक्ष्य

एकजना जनप्रतिनिधीको भनाइ अनुसार प्रधानमन्त्रीको आक्रमण कार्यक्रम अर्थात अभिभावकत्व ग्रहण कार्यक्रम नयाँ शैक्षिक सत्रको शुरुवात सँगै धेरैजसो नेपालीको कान र आँखा सम्म पुग्यो । पन्ध्र गते सम्मको पहिलो चरणको समाप्तिसँगै केहि परिश्कृत स्वरूपमा महाअभियानकै रूपमा अघि बढाउने  निर्णय समेत भइसकेको छ ।

दिगो विकासका १७ लक्ष्यहरू मध्ये चौथो नम्बरमा शिक्षा सम्बन्धी लक्ष्य "समावेशी र समान गुणात्मक शिक्षाको सुनिश्चितता र जीबनपर्यन्त सिकाइका अवसरहरूको प्रवर्द्धन" रहेको छ । सन २०१५ सम्ममा सहस्राब्दी विकासका लक्ष्यहरू प्राप्तिका लागि गरिएका प्रयास र तिनको उपलब्धी नेपालका लागि उल्लेख्य रहेको छ । यसैगरी सन २०३० सम्ममा हासिल गर्न तय गरिएको शिक्षा सम्बन्धी यो लक्ष्य र प्रधानमन्त्रीबाट शुरुवात गरिएको विद्यार्थीको अभिभावकत्व ग्रहण कार्यक्रमको तादाम्यता मिलेको देखिन्छ । नेपाली समाज विभिन्न जात-जाती, भाषा धर्म, कला र संस्कृतिको समागम भएको तथा सबै समुदायको स्तर, पहुँच र अधिकारको उपयोग समान नरहेको सर्वविदितै छ । कारण जेसुकै भएपनि अझै पनि करिब १० लाख विद्यालय जाने उमेरका बालबालिका विद्यालय बाहिर छन भन्ने तथ्याङ्क वास्तवमै कहालीलाग्दो छ  ।

नेपालको संविधान २०७२ ले शिक्षा सम्बन्धी हक मौलिक हकको रुपमा धारा ३१ मा उल्लेख गरेको छ । आधारभुत तहसम्मको शिक्षा अनिवार्य र निशुल्क तथा माद्ममिक तहसम्मको शिक्षालाई निशुल्क पाउने हक प्रत्येक नागरिकलाई छ साथै अपाङ्गता, विपन्नता र मातृभाषाको शिक्षाको हकमा समेत संविधानमै स्पष्ट उल्लेख गरिएको छ ।

अभिभावकत्व ग्रहण कार्यक्रम वास्तवमै पछाडी पारिएका समुदाय तथा वर्ग र विद्यालय जाने उमेरका बालबालिका विद्यालय बाहिर हुनसक्ने जोखिम न्युनिकरणका लागि र संविधान कार्यान्वयनका लागि समेत यौटा उदाहरणीय कार्यक्रम हो यसमा कसैको दुइमत छैन ।

नेपालमा शैक्षिक संस्थाहरू प्रति हेर्ने दृष्टिकोण सायद विकाशशील राष्ट्र भएर होला विकसित राष्ट्रहरू भन्दा विपरित छ । विकसित देशहरूमा सरकारी शैक्षीक संस्थाहरू निरन्तर आफ्नो शाख र गुणात्मकता कायम राख्न सफल छन भने हाम्रोमा निरन्तर ओरालो झरिरहेका (केहि अपवाद छाडेर) छन साथै सरकारीबाट विद्यार्थीहरू भागाभागको स्थितिमा छन । अमेरिका, सिंगापुर र नर्वे जस्ता विकसित देशहरूमा ९० प्रतिशत भन्दा बढी विद्यार्थीहरू सरकारी विद्यालय जान्छन भने हामी ६८ प्रतिशत बाट क्रमश: तल झरिरहेका छौं ।  के हाम्रो संविधानको निशुल्क शिक्षा र सरकारी/सामुदायिक विद्यालयहरूको विद्यार्थि विहिन बन्न सक्ने संभावना बिच केहि सम्बन्ध छ ? छैन भने कुन प्रमुख कारणले यो अवस्था सिर्जना गरिरहेको छ ? यसको उत्तर समयमै खोजिएन भने अभिभावकत्व ग्रहण फेरि पनि समाचारहरूमा पहुँच हुनेहरूको कान र आँखा अनि सामाजिक सञ्जालहरूमा  लाइक र कमेन्टका लागि मात्र सिमित हुनेछ । जबसम्म एउटा नेपाली सेवा सरकारीमा गर्न अनि सेवा निजीमा लिन उद्दत रहन्छ तबसम्म दिगो विकासका लक्ष्यहरू मृगमरिचिकाकै रुपमा रहनेछन । वर्षौ निरन्तर प्रयास गरेर सरकारी जागिरेको रूपमा आफुलाई उभ्याउने अनि आफैले आफैलाई सेवा गर्न अपमानित महशुस गर्नुपर्ने अवस्थाको सिर्जना कस्ले र किन गर्दैछ ? आफु सेवाग्राही बन्दा उत्कृष्टताको अपेक्षा गर्ने हामी आफु सेवा प्रदायक हुँदा किन बिर्सन्छौं त्यहि अपेक्षा ? के सबैको अपेक्षा उहि उत्कृष्ट सेवाको हैन र?

सन २००९ को जुलाइ देखी २०१४ को जुलाइ सम्मका लागि तयार पारिएको विद्यालय क्षेत्र सुधार कार्यक्रम अरू २ वर्ष थप गरी २०१६ को जुलाइसम्म संचालनमा आएको थियो । सबैलाई गुणस्तरीय शिक्षामा पहुँचको सुनिश्चितताका लागि विद्यालय क्षेत्र विकास योजना (२०७३/७४-२०७९/८०) कार्यान्वयनमा आइसकेको छ । योजना , त्यसको कार्यान्वयन र लक्ष्य प्राप्तीको अहिलेसम्मको हाम्रो इतिहास सन्तोषजनक बन्न सकेको छैन । आशा गरौं त्यो निरन्तरता यो योजनाले तोड्नेछ । नयाँ शासकीय व्यवस्थाको अभ्यास शुरू गरिसकेको परिप्रेक्ष्यमा यो योजनाले हरेक स्थानीय तह र प्रदेश सुहाँउदो खाका र रणनिती तयार गरी अघि बढ्ने अपरिहार्यतालाई समेत सम्बोधन गरेको छ । स्थानीय तहहरूले आफ्ना शिक्षा सम्बन्धी ऐन र नियमावलीहरूको निर्माणमा लागिरहदा यो योजनाका लक्ष्य र उद्देश्यहरू प्राप्तीका यथेष्ठ संभावनाहरू जिवित छन तथापि कार्यान्वयन तहमा कुन रूपले अघि बढ्ने हो त्यो भने हेर्न बाँकी नै छ ।

शिक्षामा गुणात्मकताको प्रसंग चलिरहँदा समय सापेक्ष रूपमा जनशक्तिको क्षमता अभिवृद्धी नहुनु सामुदायिक विद्यालयको लागि ठूलो चुनौती बनेको छ । धेरै विद्यालयहरूमा कम्प्युटर शिक्षा तल्लो तहदेखि नै अध्यापन हुने गरेको छ तर पढाउने शिक्षकहरू क्यालकुलेटर युगकै हुनुहुन्छ । वहाँहरूको क्षमता अभिवृद्धी यौटा पाटो होला तर स्वयंको नयाँ प्रविधी सिक्न खोज्ने इच्छाशक्ति अझ महत्वपूर्ण पक्ष हो । जो शिक्षा क्षेत्रमा उपयुक्त सिकाइको वातावरण निर्माणमा दत्तचित्त भई लाग्नुभएको छ अनि धेरै विद्यार्थीहरूको सिकाइको मुल्याङ्कन गर्नुहुन्छ वहाँ आफै सिक्ने कुरा जीवन पर्यन्त चलिरहन्छ भन्ने कुरा व्यवहारमा लागु गर्न सक्नुहुन्न भने शिक्षामा हामिले खोजेको गुणात्मकता प्राप्त हुनसक्छ कि सक्दैन विचारणीय छ । सामुदायिक विद्यालयहरूमा अहिले चलेको भाषाको हुइयाँ समेत धेरै शिक्षकहरूको लागि हाउँगुजी बनेको छ । अभिभावकहरूको अंग्रेजी भाषा प्रतिको आकर्षणले धेरै विद्यालयहरू अंग्रेजी माध्यममा रुपान्तरित भएका छन । यो रूपान्तरण हामीले भन्ने गरेको शिक्षामा गुणात्मकताको कतै बाधक त बनिरहेको छैन ?

Nepal is making its debut at Mr. Gay World 2018 ( 10th edition ) in Knysna, South Africa which is happening alongside Pink Loerie Mardi Gras & Arts Festival as an official event of the Festival. Manindra Singh Danuwar " Manil" who is title winner of Mr. Gay Handsome Nepal 2017 is representing Nepal at Mr. Gay World 2018. Earlier, back in 2013 Bishwaraj Adhikari was the first Mr. Gay Handsome Nepal and the gay men's pageant after a long break. The pageant is now believed to continue yearly as it starts it's international step raising Nepal's flag in the global arena via representation every year of Mr. Gay World.

Manindra Singh Danuwar "Manil", 29 years old, hails from Saralahi, Province 2 of Nepal. Currently actively engaged in LGBTIQ activism here in Nepal as well as actively engaged in advocating about indigenous & ethnic community of Nepal and serving as Deputy General Secretary of Nepal Indigenous Nationality Student Federation along with Founding Member of Pink Triangle Nepal - An organization led by Gay Men for Gay Men. An undergraduate student of Psychology and Social Work, Manindra believes in motivating the young people to live freely and break the boundaries. Currently working as Inreach Worker on HIV Prevention Project of Save The Children - Global Fund in collaboration with Blue Diamond Society (BDS) where he reaches out to MSM and MSW and orienting them about sexual health and empowering them through several motivational workshops. Other than work, Manindra loves socializing as well as loves playing volleyball, travelling, reading novels and engaging in several social activities. He has represented several national dialogues, seminars, conferences of the United Nations, Save The Children, Asia Indigenous People Pact, REDD+ Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest, International Labour Organization and others. One of the recent conferences he joined was UN Youth Co:Lab organized by UNDP in 15 Countries across Asia Pacific Region.
