Global Youth Conference kicked off

Global Youth Conference on Human Development kicked off today in Kathmandu amid a function inaugurated by Mr. Sushil Ghimire, Secretary of Ministry of Youth and Sports. While speaking in the inaugural programme, Mr. Ghimire said that youth should now be aware of their role and responsibility and actively involve in development works. 



Mr. Larry Philbrook, President of ICA International in Canada dwelt light on global human development. He emphasized on the importance of youth empowerment activities for the development of any nation. Dr. Tatwa P. Timsina, Chairperson of ICA Nepal said that youth in Nepal are having very difficult time mainly because of the government apathy and lack of support to them. He emphasized on the need of launching youth empowerment programmes with the focus on education and leadership for them. 



Prof. Dr. Anant Lal Karna explained about the youth movement activities and the participation of youths in various movements such as in 1990 and afterwards. He emphasized on giving youths in decision making process. 

Global Youth Conference is a pre-conference event as Institute of Cultural Affairs Nepal (ICA-N) is hosting 8th Global conference on Human Development from October 27- November 2, 2012 in Kathmandu Nepal in which more than 250 participants from 30 countries are attending. 


Since 1984, the ICA had hosted seven international conferences concerned with the human factor in Development and re-emergence of civil society. The conferences were highly participatory and focused on practical sharing of approaches that work. Interchange, Dialogue and designing creative responses to particular area of concern in the society are the aims of ICA conferences.



There are more than 100 participants in the Global Youth Conference. Many presenters namely Prof. Robertson Work, New York University, Mr. Anil Chitrakar, Mr. Allen Tuladhar, Mr. Dilendra Raj Shrestha will be speaking in this conference. 



The participants will be exploring the ways how youth will be mobilized for global human development. The resolution will be implemented through ICAs which are active in 35 countries and other organizations all over the world.
