2 August 2013 – In January, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon appointed Ahmad Alhendawi of Jordan as his Envoy on Youth, with the aim of addressing the needs of the largest generation of youth the world has ever known.

Mr. Alhendawi, born in 1984, took up his post this past May. Since December 2012, he served as Team Leader at a World Bank-funded programme to the League of Arab States on Institutional Development to Strengthen Arab Policy and Participation.2 August 2013 – In January, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon appointed Ahmad Alhendawi of Jordan as his Envoy on Youth, with the aim of addressing the needs of the largest generation of youth the world has ever known.
Prior to this, he served as the Youth Policy Advisor in the League of Arab States in Cairo and as an officer in the Technical Secretariat of the Arab Youth and Sports Ministers Council, between 2009 and 2012.
In addition to working with the Iraq Office of the UN Population Fund (UNFPA) and with the non-governmental organization Save the Children, Mr. Alhendawi has done extensive volunteer work. He was among the co-founders of the All Jordan Youth Commission, and co-founded and headed the Youth for Democracy Network at the Jordanian Commission for Democratic Culture and co-founded the International Youth Council in New York.
The UN News Centre spoke to Mr. Alhendawi ahead of a series of events the Organization has planned to mark International Youth Day, commemorated each year on 12 August. First up will be an interactive dialogue, “Uniting for Youth,” on youth initiatives, led by the Secretary-General and moderated by Mr. Alhendawi.  The International Day will this year will spotlight youth migration.
