Through the empowerment of Beauty with a Purpose, hundreds of millions of dollars have now been raised to the benefit of the most vulnerable in our society.
The Miss World contestants (with the help of their Miss World National Organisations) have set up Beauty with a Purpose projects in more than 100 countries. This gives tens of thousands of young women every year, the opportunity to use their abilities to make a real and lasting contribution to the lives of the sick and disadvantaged.

The year 2011 had winners for 2011 ~ Beauty with a Purpose ~ from - Ghana & Indonesia
Beauty with a Purpose is at the heart of Miss World as it strives to help children worldwide, therefore it carries higher marks than any other challenge events. Each contestant gave a presentation to the Miss World Beauty with a Purpose Panel to show the work they are doing and have done in their respective countries. By honouring the winning contestants, their National Organisation becomes honoured. The year 2011, it was an incredibly difficult decision to make – but it was announced at the final that the joint winners of ‘Beauty with a Purpose 2011’ are GHANA and INDONESIA.
Here’s a bit about their individual projects...
More than 90,000 people live in abject poverty in the slums of Accra, Ghana. Ghana set out to help the many deprived and neglected children in this area, firstly by refurbishing a day care centre in the heart of the community. Her dream is to make sure each child is given the same opportunities that she had growing up.
Filariasis is a parasitic disease and found in tropical regions, mainly in slum areas. People that suffer from the disease become handicapped, making it difficult for them to work, thus affecting them economically. Miss Indonesia was involved in raising awareness of the disease; personally giving them moral support, teaching them ways of prevention and better hygiene. Miss Indonesia hopes that by 2020 the world health organisation will free the world from Filariasis, giving all those a chance of a better tomorrow.
