Lumbini Peace Marathon announced with Peace March held at Lumbini Garden

Lumbini Peace March concluded this January 15, 2014 at Lumbini amidst the grand gatherings. Organised by Lumbini Peace Marathon, it was participated by people of all walk of life. Addressing the function, Mr. Bikram Pandey, organizer of Lumbini Peace Marathon and Goodwill Ambassador of Lumbini said that the objective of this march was to promote the areas related with the life of Buddha as tourism destination. He further said that it would help project Nepal as a spiritual tourism destination clustered with tourism sports activities. " We started Lumbini Mini Marathon in 2012 on the occasion of closing ceremony. And, in 2013, we organized Peace Marathon today. We will be doing Lumbini Peace Marathon on March 16, 2014," said Mr. Pandey.

The Peace March started from Peace Flame, went around the Mayadevi Temple and ended at the Peace Flame. The March was participated by the officials of Lumbini Development Trust, Former Miss Nepal Sadichha Shrestha, Olympians, representatives of Siddhartha Chamber of Commerce, Siddhartha Hotel Association, Siddhartha Hotel and Restaurant Association, officials from Nepal Tourism Board and sportsmen of Lumbini.

Spiritual adviser of Lumbini Development Fund, Monk Maitraya emphasized on the continuation of such peace march. He asked organizer to promote peace and spiritual development of lumbini through various activities. 

Former Miss Nepal Shrestha requested Nepalese citizen to take part in marathon. She said" As this marathon is being held to promote peace and lumbini through sportsmanship. We should take part in such mega event."  


Lumbini Peace Marathon to be organized on March 16 will start from Tilorakot and it goes to Gotihawa, Kudan, Dohani, Barhiya, Pagadi, Labani and finally ends at Maya Devi Temple garden. All these places are related with the life cycle of Lord Buddha. There will be two category in the marathon: Men's and Women's. Students and Open will participate 5 kilometer race and 10 kilometer corporate rely will be held for corporate participants.


Event Manager of the marathon, Shikhar Pandey expected  minimum 2 hundred athletes at the program. 'It's not only a marathon. As this is being held in birthplace of Buddha' he added 'we would like to celebrate peace and harmony through marathon.'


According to him international queries has been received regarding participation to the marathon. 



Holding Olympic flame during Lumbini Peace March organized by Lumbini Marathon at Lumbini Garden on Wednesday 15th January 2014 celebrathing the one year anniversary of Lumbini Peace Marathon.  The next series of Lumbini Peace Marathon was announced to be held on 16th March 2014.
