Vote for Top 6 Finalist of Wai Wai Glocal Teen Hero 2018

Wai Wai Glocal Teen Hero 2018 top 6 finalist has been announced today. Bikalpa Dhungana (19 years, Inventor, Tanahu), Deepshikha Ghimire (18 years, Writer, Makwanpur), Prashansha KC (17 years, Social Activist, Rukum), Saugat Tiwari (19 years, Entrepreneur, Chitwan), Sudarshan Subedi (19 years, Ecopreneur, Okhaldhunga), and Swornim Shrestha (17 years, Social Entrepreneur, Sindhupalchowk), have been selected among top 6 candidates for the competition, the only national platform in Nepal to recognize and honor the outstanding teenagers.

This year’s competition received over 532 applications, from fascinating teenagers demonstrating the diverse potential of this often under looked age-group of people. The applicants had demonstrated their skills and expertise, and made an impact in their society, from areas like social work to journalism, from mobile app development and computer programming, to robotics, and from entrepreneurship to community development among others.

Glocal Teen Hero is a platform for Nepali teenagers to share their initiation, creativity, and enthusiasm which will then motivate them and more of the other teenagers in the nation to develop an entrepreneurial thinking.

To vote for the candidates, text the voting code of your favorite finalist to 33001. The voting codes for the finalists are:

The respected 7-member jury panel had shortlisted these 6 amazing teens (ages 13-19) for their achievements, initiations or contributions in any other field outside of their respective school’s or college’s curriculum. The jury panel this year comprises of Mr. Renaud Meyer, UNDP Country Director to Nepal, Mr. Suraj Vaidya, President of Vaidya’s Organization of Industries, Mr. Upaul Majumdar, General Manager of Soaltee Crowne Plaza, and Ranjit Acharya, CEO of Prisma Advertising, Mrs. Srijana Shakya Jyoti, Chief Branding Officer, Jyoti Group, Mr. Ambuj Singh, Country Manager, Coca-Cola Nepal and Ms. Alina Prajapati, General Manager, Glocal Pvt. Ltd.

The selection was based on their applications, resume, the evidence and an essay on their accomplishment. They were evaluated on their innovation, achievement and impact of their works.

These six teens will now go through a six-days-long capacity building workshop before the main award day.

The finalists would be individually interviewed by the panel of judges on September 1 and SMS voting round has opened that will also contribute to select THE FANTASTIC TEEN for the year 2018.

Award ceremony of the Wai Wai Glocal Teen Hero will be held on 1st of September in the presence of 250+ personalities of Nepal from different walks of life, such as diplomats, politicians, film stars, entrepreneurs, youth leaders and many more at Soaltee Crowne Plaza.

Rhythm Sah : A Patriotic Artist

An artist enjoys splashing colours in a blank canvas to portray his thoughts. But this young teenager is inspired to share this artistic quality in order to groom the creative skills of youths. Rhythm Sah is a 17 year old teenager who is really passionate about sketching and wants to work in the field of Visual Effects (VFX) in future.He has also been running a non-profit workshop on sketching and drawing. He is planning to take this to a whole new level by registering it officially and taking the idea of interactive learning further. Currently he is conducting workshops in different government schools in Nepal to empower the youths.

Starting of his journey

On enquiring about the start of his journey, Rhythm quoted,”Well in our classes, there used to be a tendency where teachers actually didn’t bother to quench our thirst of curiosity. When we used to ask them about the topic that we didn’t understand, our teachers used to simply reply, Just rote! The more you mug up, the more marks you will get. And seriously many of my classmates did the same”.  But he opines that is not the real learning. “If we do something practically, we can understand better and simultaneously explain it better. So then I decided to start the workshop where I can share my perception about practical knowledge. Immediately after completing my SEE exam, I started visiting various schools and started conducting different non profit workshops”, he further said.

Yatish Ojha: a Proactive Leader

A 18 year old boy who describes himself as a leader and an optimist, Yatish Ojha is a child right activist who has been working to make child friendly local governance. He is motivating youth in social service and also making them engage in productive and creative works.

Yatish completed his high school from Damak Multiple Campus, Damak in science faculty. He is the current President of Kamal Rural Municipality Level Child Network as well as the Secretary of Human Action for Mutual Integrity (HAMI), a non-profit social organization. He has been working to make child friendly local governance by creating awareness among children, parents, teachers, elected representatives and other stakeholders. He is also active in social works under HAMI which was recently established to encourage youth in social service. He is also a member of Damak Public Library Youth Team, which is established in order to increase reading culture in youths and children. He has established a child club in Damak Public Library to engage children in reading books out of academics too.
